Planning page for our ski trip in 2022
Half term dates: 12th to 20th February

The information on our trip will be updated here so that there is an easy place to find all the details without having to scroll back through the WhatsApp group (hopefully this will also make it easier for people who join later on).

2021 was a disappointing one, so let's get back on track in 2022!

Since the half term dates for next year are set, those who want to can already start booking things.

Insurance

The ski area has a new requirement for third-party liability insurance. There is no further information on any specific coverage requirements or how they plan to enforce this. I assume they mean that you must insure yourself against being liable to pay for accidental bodily injury to a third party or accidental damage to third party property.

I checked my travel insurance policy and it does provide appropriate cover - although my policy called it "personal liability" since it is written from the policy holder's perspective (source reference).

Green Pass

Everyone 12 years and older will need to be vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 to use the lifts. An FFP2 mask is mandatory from the age of 6 on cable cars, gondolas and chairlifts with a canopy.

Once you have purchased your ski-pass, you can activate it on a website or the Dolomiti Superski app. This has to be done on a daily basis.

Although the Green Pass is for EU citizens, the UK has joined the EU Digital COVID Certificate scheme and the QR codes in an NHS COVID Travel Pass should be accepted (source reference and green pass details).

One further complication is that from 1st February, the Italian government are reducing the period of validity for the green pass to six months since your most recent dose (boosters count). So please check, and if your last vaccine dose was before 20th August then get a booster jab now (source reference).

Location
San Pellegrino Pass, Italy

We will return to the San Pellegrino Pass in the Dolomites, within easy reach of Venice, Verona, Trieste and Innsbruck. You can find more information on the ski area at Dolomiti Super Ski. It is a great resort for families and has brilliant slopes for beginners.

The 2022 ski pass prices are now set. This year it is an €11 increase for an adult's seven day pass versus the published prices for 2021, so €20 up since we were last there in 2020. That will now cost €299 for adults and €209 for juniors, with children under eight years old free.

Hotel Arnika Wellness

It is now tradition that we will return to Hotel Arnika Wellness.

The food is great and it has a good swimming pool and spa. All the hotels we have stayed at in the pass so far are of a comparable standard, but so far this one is our favourite. Click on the image below to visit their website.

The hotel have now set their 2022 prices, with about 6% increases on 2020. That's quite a jump, but actually slightly down on the 8% jump they published for 2021. Here are some examples, based on staying on a half-board basis for seven nights from the 12th to the 19th (as far as I can work out... their pricing is a little confusing and only published for 2022 in Italian so far).

Room Details Price per Night Total for 7 Nights
Standard double room (22 sq mt)
Two adults
€218 €1526
Standard double room with one extra bed (22 sq mt)
Two adults and one child 6+
€289 €2022
Standard double room with two extra beds (22 sq mt)
Two adults and two children 6+
€360 €2518

There is also a €2 per adult per day city tax which is not included in the prices above.

Cancellation Policy

On their website, their cancellation policy is explained as follows:

Cancellation up to 14 days before the arrival date:

The confirmation deposit, paid at the time of booking, will be considered returnable or made available for another stay within a year.

Cancellation from the 13th day from the arrival date onwards:

The deposit will in any case be returned or made usable for another stay within a year only due to Covid-19 resumption and subsequent lockdown. In all other cases the deposit will be retained.
